G-Dragon is back, and he's just released the mv for his revolutionary new song, "
Coup D'etat", as well as part 1 of the album. Yes I said part 1. We'll get into that later. Have you seen the mv yet? I had to watch it a few times just to get my thoughts together, so let's watch it again:
"Coup D'etat" was co-produced by world famous dj
Diplo, as well as
Baauer, who produces
trap and bass music like the song "
Harlem Shake". Yes, GD got the guy that made the song "Harlem Shake" for his album because he is that epic. Of course you know that meant that this song had to have an obnoxious bassline, as well as some nasty drops. It's the perfect song to bump super loud in your car as you're driving down the highway, which I will for sure be doing.
This song definitely took some getting used to, because it was the last thing I was expecting. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, I just know that this was not it. It has grown on me though.
"Coup D'etat" is certainly no "
One of A Kind" and it is a far, far cry from "
Crayon". This is Dark GD, who seems to be a more jaded and grown up "
Heartbreaker" GD. An even weirder GD, if that's possible.
The imagery in this mv is intense. It's like our cotton candy Kpop world gone corrupt, awry and dystopian. To me, this is GD as a skewed fantasy version of
Lestat the vampire x a f*cked up anime character. However, that's just my take on it. I really can't make any references to anything else, it's just plain old crazy ass G-Dragon at his finest.
Have I mentioned yet how much I love his hair and his suits? Everything from the makeup on down to the way they framed each shot is impeccable.

GD has done the faux hipster hip hop look and the millennial trendster look so why not a vampire? It fits this dark world he's created, where he's the world weary warrior, besieged on all sides by the media and fangirls alike.
I'm going to assume the crows represent sasaeng fans and crazy netizens, because that seems highly plausible.
They're the bane of any idol's life, right?

Is he trying to tell us he was an innocent babe when he made the "Heartbreaker" album, and now he's become this distorted version of himself? Or maybe he just wanted to paint himself black and wear a vampire grill... Only he knows the truth.

Now go buy the album. As you might already know, the album has been divided into 3 parts:
The 2nd part will be released on September 5th, and the last part on September 13th. This all has something to do with G-Dragon being a perfectionist and wanting to change stuff until the last minute. Luckily for us, he realized that VIPs would've lost their shit if the album was postponed, which makes him a very smart man.
