The second part to
G-Dragon's epic opus, "
Coup D'etat", has been let loose into the world tonight, and along with that came a new mv. This one, called "
Crooked", is obviously the video that GD was filming all over London last month. In it G-Dragon plays the epitome of that descriptive phrase "mad, bad and dangerous to know", and he plays it to the hilt. Watch:
Now this is what I'm talking about! While the "
Coup D'etat" mv was astounding and difficult to decipher, this mv is pretty straight forward. It was him running and lots of it.
Jiyong is forever running like
a bat out of hell in videos, isn't he? But wait... I do know what this mv is about: It's about love and loss and running away from your feelings.
What's amazing to me is that so many of the comments on YouTube completely bypass the content of the video to talk about how hot he looks or "What a fun video this is!" Really? Where we watching the same video, because that's definitely not what I took away from it.
It was an extremely well acted portrayal of a sad, strung out, out-of-control star who eventually ends up ODing on the dance floor. There was nothing fun about that. I will admit to him looking hot but come on, people. Think before you speak... or type. Maybe both.
This video is gorgeously well lit and blocked and I love the dreamy, gritty texture to it. This just serves to heighten the feel of a life coming unglued. The sets and backdrops were also beautifully done and everything about them helped to renew my interest in visiting London one day.
GD always brings incredible fashion to the table but he and his stylist have really outdone themselves this time. It takes a genius to make both women AND men want to dress exactly like G-Dragon, and they really managed to strike that perfect androgynous balance that I so love to see portrayed in fashion and film.
In my opinion the "Crooked" mv far outshadows "
Crayon" fashion-wise. As usual GD has a new outfit in every scene. This can seem excessive on others, but to me each outfit perfectly distills the outlaw punk/rockabilly feel of London in the '80s. It's obvious that GD and his stylist were going for that "
The Sex Pistols and
The Clash as styled by
Vivienne Westwood" look, mixed with a little 2013 hipster flair and they hit it dead on. Incredible! I'll have one of each piece, please (especially all that leopard).
As for the song, well... I'm liking it but I'm not loving it. It strikes me as very pop punk a la
Avril Lavigne and her ilk, which doesn't strike any chords with me.
Especially the chorus. I'm so with him until it starts, and then I lose interest. Sorry.
Let's talk about G-Dragon's acting for a bit. Can someone get the guy a movie, a k-drama, something? I've had it in the back of my head that he'd make a great actor ever since I saw the mv to Big Bang's "
Haru Haru", and each subsequent video is no exception. I remember seeing him say somewhere that he's not very interested in acting. What a damned shame because I'm pretty sure he'd excel at it.
Let's revisit that ending:
Damn dude, that's pitiful and all the more so because it's all over a girl.
G-Dragon "Crooked" lyrics:
Nothing ever lasts forever
In the end, you changed
There is no reason, no sincerity
Take away such a thing as love
Tonight, I’ll be crooked
Leave me alone
I was alone anyway
I have no one, everything is meaningless
Take away the sugar-coated comfort
Tonight, I’ll be crooked
I scream and get dizzy
I vent out of boredom to other couples
I start fights for no reason like a town gangster
Sometimes, I purposely shake my leg, crookedly
The main characters of the movie called this world is you and me
A lonely island, lost and wandering
The empty streets are filled with those who are alone
Unlike my heart, the weather is so damn nice
I used to believe in you alone and I was happy
But like a joke, I am left alone
You used to promise me with your pinky finger
But in the end
Nothing ever lasts forever
In the end, you changed
There is no reason, no sincerity
Take away such a thing as love
Tonight, I’ll be crooked
Leave me alone
I was alone anyway
I have no one, everything is meaningless
Take away the sugar-coated comfort
Tonight, I’ll be crooked
I’ll put on thick eyeliner, use a whole can of hairspray
Leather pants, leather jacket with a frown
I want to hide my pain and become even more crooked
So you can feel sorry, I’ll spit toward the sky
You’re scared of my crude words and my rough eyes
But actually, I’m afraid, I want to go back but I have nowhere to go
I want to love but no one to love, what am I supposed to do?
I can’t turn it back
I used to believe in you alone and I was happy
But like a joke, I am left alone
You used to promise me with your pinky finger
But in the end
Nothing ever lasts forever
In the end, you changed
There is no reason, no sincerity
Take away such a thing as love
Tonight, I’ll be crooked
Leave me alone
I was alone anyway
I have no one, everything is meaningless
Take away the sugar-coated comfort
Tonight, I’ll be crooked
Will you not say anything for me tonight?
I didn’t know being alone would be this hard (I miss you)
Will you be my friend tonight?
On this good day, this beautiful day, this day where I miss you
Tonight, I’ll be crooked

Let's hope no delusional fangirls start to glorify drug use and acting unhinged "because G-Dragon did it". :Sigh:... I can just imagine.
