I met Julyssa, the author of today's Guest Blogger Week post, in the most random of ways, but I'm very glad I did. She's got the best stories to tell, and this one is no different. This post is about how Julyssa got into Kpop and some of the interesting things she's doing with the genre all the way up there in Scandinavia. Enjoy, and let me know how you got into Kpop and how you spread that Kpop love in the comments below.

In less than two weeks I am hosting and producing the very first K-pop concert in Scandinavia. VIXX is coming to Sweden for a very historic concert.
It’s a historic moment that pretty much is still very surreal for me. I have so much work to do but I don’t feel like any of this will be real until the concert is over. I am extremely afraid, nervous and terrified but somehow this concert became a dream and it’s time to fulfill it.
It’s funny how all of this started. If anyone would’ve told me five years ago that I would be doing what I am doing today, I would’ve probably laughed but at the same time nod since I wouldn’t find it impossible. Yet, it’s extremely beautiful how much a passion can drive you to do something you never thought you could do.
My story with K-pop starts with a silly music video and one of the best idol groups ever to grace this planet. I saw "
Balloons" by
DBSK and I drowned in the Hallyu wave. Pretty fast I was calling myself a Cassiopea and DBSK became a very important part of my life.
DBSK – Balloons music video:
Being a fan of DBSK brought a lot of good to my life. It brought me a purpose and gave me the push I needed to move forward with my life. Before DBSK I had gone through a very rough patch and I was standing in a very dark place. After DBSK things became a bit easier, I had a reason to smile; suddenly I also had goals I wanted to achieve.
I think that the first step towards having VIXX come to Sweden was deciding to fly to Japan to see DBSK live in concert. Although it cost me months of working like a lunatic to make the money, while I was going to school full time and taking care of my own life, I made it to Japan. First time I traveled to Asia, first time I took a leap, first time I experienced K-pop live. It was a very special event that I will forever remember. It’s hard to explain how it is to see the artists you love the most live. For me it was extra special since I have never loved a music group as much as I loved DBSK.
That concert was really the catalyst for me to work harder. I became editor of
YAM magazine, founded
Asia Nonstop and with it started
Kpop Nonstop, hosted the biggest K-pop flashmob in Sweden and then opened the doors to the first K-pop nightclub in Stockholm. It has been a very crazy few years and now it all is coming to a peak with VIXX. I am still amused that things went the way they did.
So my love and passion for K-pop led me to this, hosting VIXX’s first concert in Scandinavia. It feels so surreal since just in May I started to like this group and now they’re coming to play live in my hometown.
I know that producing a show is so much different than just going to a show, but I take such joy in creating a beautiful memory for my fellow Swedish K-pop fans. I guess that this endeavor is launching me into that next step in my life, one that I am sure I wouldn’t reach without the help of K-pop.
It’s pretty amazing what passion for something can lead you to do. I guess that one shouldn’t be afraid of doing something practical with the love you have for a certain thing. It’s amazing what love can make you do and how much happiness it can give you.
I hope that this concert is the start to many more K-pop concerts being held in not only Stockholm but also the rest of Scandinavia. I look forward to that.
